Debi Heath French & Oskar - June 2008
After the most serious fall I have ever experienced in 30 years of riding, I approached Cath Fowdrey for some assistance in bringing both my horse and I back to a better working relationship.
Getting both my horses confidence and mine back to a level that made us safe to compete at shows and the ability to train at home in a safe and progressive manor, a specific training program was laid out for both Oskar and I to follow together.
Although frustration may have been our biggest factor, we worked through it and now were are succeeding. It may sound corny, but if it wasn't for both Cath & Martyn I don't think we would have got through it.
Each and every step of the way Cath & Martyn concentrated on our flat work as well as doing small courses at home (Woodside Farm) and also taking the time to get my horse and I to the Royal Tournament where we could compete with both Cath & Martyn at our side.
I have never experienced a dediacted and prffesional service from people who not only knew what they were doing, but who also cared about me and my horse.
I would recommend them 100% and no matter where you are in the country if they can help they'll get to you and make sure that you can succeed at what ever level you feel happy with and push you if you want to achieve more.
Despite leaving the yard and returning home, both Cath and Martyn still follow my horse and I, and show a real interest in our continuous progress.
I thank you both for your continuous help and support and wish you every success with assisting others in simular situations, you are a winning combination!
Helen Barker & Red, Nov 2009
I called up Equestrian Physiotherapy, on a Thursday in November in desperate need of help.
My horse needed an assessment from a physiotherapist, as he had been at an Equine Hospital for investigations and they could not get him to see a physio for 3 weeks. I live in the Channel Islands so couldn’t wait that amount of time in a hotel and find stabling for my horse. Martyn told me they were full, but had always said they would have a stable available for emergencies. He made a phone call, and moved one of his horses so mine could move in the next day.
I had been a year trying to find the problem with my horse, having seen 4 different vets. As soon as Cath Fowdrey put her hands on his neck she could tell he had an acute problem with his muscles.
This was the perfect situation for me, as my horse was getting regular physio, as and when he needed it, and then getting retrained and ridden by Cath and Martyn. Having Cath on site meant my horse could have regular and frequent treatment. The icing on the cake is that with my horse being kept at the yard I got discounted physio rates too.
You couldn’t ask for a better team to treat or/and train your horse as they genuinely really care, and treat all the horses with kindness and consideration. I was kept really well informed by phone or email as to the progress. On several occasions they videod training sessions, or out competing, so I could see how he was getting on.
I travelled over every few weeks for lessons on him, so that I could carry on with the work back home. Martyn & Cath made me so very welcome. They went well beyond the call of duty, picking me up from the train station, having me in there home for dinner, lunch and numerous coffees, just because they are decent people.
I can’t recommend this yard enough. My horse ended up staying 3 months. I would have kept him there longer, but I missed him too much. They made sure before I left that I had lots of lungeing, and riding lessons, and gave me stretching exercises to use on my horse so that he would stay supple in his neck, which has improved 100%.
In a nutshell, first class treatment and training all under one roof, by a team that really care and want the best for their clients, be that equine or human.

When I first met Cath, my horse had a very sore back and she wasn’t at all happy being saddled, she would often pull out of the stable stiff behind and took a while to warm up. Cath set about treating her back and Martyn fitted her for a WOW saddle. The difference it has made is amazing.
I was so impressed with the service that Kula and I received from Cath and Martyn that i started having lessons with them and things have gone from strength to strength.
Their help and enthusiasm has rubbed off on the whole family and six months ago we moved Kula in as a competition livery and we all love it there. I can’t believe that we are now competing and winning at Newcomers level show jumping and Pre-novice level British Eventing.
Martyn and Cath are never too busy to help with any problems and are always on hand to offer advice if required, I really don’t think that there are any horsey problems that they can’t help with.
Thanks to them I am really looking forward to continued success with Kula!!

One of the best things I ever did was to get in touch with Martyn and Cath when we had a problem with our pony. He had been bought for our grandaughter and at the time of purchase seemed everyth ing we could have wished for. Then he started to buck.
We had his back seen to on several occasions, two new saddles were fitted, we had his teeth done, and he was schooled every week by an professional young lady. But nothing improved the situation. Eventually we had to admit defeat but we were anxious to see if someone else could get to the bottom of his problems.
I was recommended to take him to Martyn and Cath. Within a few weeks they had summed up the situation - namely a badly fitting saddle creating an increasingly tense and nervous pony.
They very quickly got him sorted out and turned him into a very happy relaxed pony willing to do his best for them. They have since sold him for us on to a lovely home where he is doing well with his new owner. We will happily recommend Martyn and Cath to anyone with a horsey problem.

I have owned Badgers Quiet Knight (Baby) since he was 4 months old and couldn’t wait for the time I would be able to ride him. In the spring of 2009 when he was rising four he was backed quietly and successfully at home. Due to my going away he was then sent to another yard to be ridden away with the plan of doing some light schooling and hacking over the summer. Unfortunately in his fourth week he had an accident that entailed him bolting through two five bar gates and two post and rail fences! The result was damage to the medial branch of his suspensory ligament on his right hind and (in some ways worse) a fear of saddling up. My horse who had always taken everything in his stride had become a quivering wreck. Some ten months of rest and treatment later he was ready to start again. My confidence has plummeted and given his accident I felt it was important to send him to someone who had a track record of dealing with this type of problem. Martyn & Cath were recommended to me by word of mouth and the fact that you have experienced riders, a saddle fitter and a physiotherapist all in one place seemed ideal.
Throughout his three months at Woodside I was kept informed of his progress and encouraged to be there when he was being worked whenever it was possible for me to be. They never hid any of the issues he had from me and were happy to take steps back in his training whenever that was required. When it came to me riding they had a whole new problem to deal with – ME! Their patience with the horse is wonderful but their patience, encouragement and ‘pushing’ of the owners is legendry!
During his training my saddle started to cause problems which Martyn immediately dealt with by fitting one of his own WOW saddles and then lending it to me whilst I awaited my own to have the tree changed.
Loading into my trailer was also included in his training as it was not one of Baby’s favourite pastimes, within a day he was loading perfectly and continues to still.
Once we were both home they continued to support us, regularly phoning to see how things were going. Cath came out and treated Baby when he damaged his shoulder in the field and then both Martyn & Cath helped me when the time came to get back on, allowing me to take Baby to Woodside to use the school until our confidence was back on track.
After a fall at home I started to have problems again with Baby not wishing to go forward, yet again Cath came to the rescue coming out and encouraging me to be more assertive with Baby, back on track again!
Currently Baby is out of work after damaging his back/ribs and Cath and Martyn have become involved as part of his treatment in conjunction with my vets.
I cannot express how patient, kind and understanding they have been with Baby but even more so with myself! I would recommend the Woodside team to anyone who is having problems with their horse whether it be physical or mental or even if you just with to improve your partnership.
