Straw Horse Bedding
We can provide you with wheat, oat and barley straw. The straw is baled behind the combine and is then stored undercover until it is delivered to our customers.
We can also provide straw straight from the field to your own storage facilities at a discount.
As most of our straw is for equestrian use such as horse bedding we do not take straw from a rotary combine, which chops it into very small piecesalmost like baled chaff. We bale our straw behind a traditional combine, which creates longer individual strands making for easier made and better draining beds. The longer straw is generally reckoned to be more economical as you use less bales to put down and maintain the beds.
Phlax Bedding for Horses
Colehay Phlax® is a premium quality, highly absorbent, easy to use bedding that is extremely economical. Developed specifically for horses and carefully processed to exacting standards.
Colehay Phlax® is made from natural flax and provides a clean, dust-free, healthy environment for both horses and grooms.
Haylage for Sale
We specialise in the production of top quality haylage and produce 4 different sizes of bale to be compatible with the number of horses customers are feeding.
We make several types of hay and haylage in various locations through the South East, stretching from Aylesbury to Oxford, Dunstable to Marlbrough as well as North and West Devon.
All our haylage is made form single species grass as we believe meadow mixes made into haylage are liable to be unstable and too variable in protein levels.
We have been making haylage for 15 years now and by a process of elimination have come to the conclusion that all products should be made from first and second year ryegrass and should be double wrapped six times.
Canadian Hay
We now supply three different types of Canadian hay
Timothy, Rye and Orchard grass mix
75% Timothy, 25% Rye mix
100% Timothy
The conditions in the areas of Canada where our hay is produced are perfect for the production of superior quality, 100% consistent hay.
The hay is very palatable, willow green in colour with guaranteed consistent quality and energy levels
Horse Shavings
Our horse shavings are produced in the UK from renewable timber resources. They are packed 36 bales per pallet and delivered throughout the UK by Pallex, minimum order is 1 pallet.
The product is a mixture of big and small flakes and is designed to be much more absorbant than big flakes alone. In practice, when you make up the bed, the small particles drop to the bottom of the bed leaving the bigger flakes on top so as to increase absorbancy.
Hay for Horses
LIKE MOST PRODUCERS IN THE UK WE HAD A VERY LIGHT YIELD WHICH ENABLED US TO PRODUCE ONLY 40% OF OUR NORMAL PRODUCT, CONSEQUENTLY WE ARE CURRENTLY IMPORTING HAY FROM CANADA, SWEDEN, THE NORTH OF FRANCE, THE RIVIERA, THE DORDOGNE AND PAKISTAN
SOME OF THIS IMPORTED HAY IS VERY EXPENSIVE BUT AT LEAST WE HAVE HAY AVAILABLE UNLIKE MOST OF OUR COMPETITORS.
