PROVIDING SANCTUARY FROM SUFFERING TO DONKEYS AND MULES WORLDWIDE
The Donkey Sanctuary, based near Sidmouth in Devon, is a UK based charity working worldwide to protect donkeys and mules and promote their welfare worldwide.
The charity has provided a sanctuary to over 14,500 donkeys and mules and currently cares for almost 5,000 at its Sanctuaries, holding bases and foster homes in the UK, Cyprus, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Spain; guaranteeing a life of loving, expert care to each of them.
Many of the animals arriving at the Sanctuary each week are unwanted or have been neglected. Others come from loving homes for a secure future due to health reasons, for companionship, or the owner's circumstances may have changed.
The charity also works to alleviate the suffering of sick or injured working donkeys in some of the poorest areas worldwide. By providing veterinary care, preventative treatments and education programmes it works in partnership with communities to equip them to deliver this care themselves.
The Donkey Sanctuary believes that supporters have the right to see how their donations are spent. The main Sanctuary farm in Sidmouth is open to the public with no charge for admissions.
